| Sasaella Genus - I presently have 7 members of this genus of ground cover/shrub species. Most members of the genus will suffer leaf burn nearly every winter in zone 6 and some look best when mowed in late winter so that the ratty, brown leaves do not detract from the new spring foliage. These species can grow in shady or sunny sites and most are very strong runners. They look best when given room to form rounded mounds that make great accents for taller plants. |

Sasaella bitchuensis - extremely vigorous runner and the wide, dark green leaves hold nice green color even in full sun. Matures at around 4 feet tall. |
Sasaella hidaensis muraii - a short plant with narrow leaves. Not very aggressive so far, this bamboo has a nice form and holds up well in heavy sun. |

| Sasaella masamuneana - Another large leaf form that tends to grow taller than others of the genus but arches due to the leaves at the tips of the culms. The leaves are narrower and more palmate than S. bitchuensis. | ||||||||||||||||||
Sasaella masamuneana 'Albostriata' - Very creamy white & green striped leaves particularly in early spring as above. The white fades somewhat over the summer. |
Sasaella masamuneana 'Albostriata' - The same plant in October showing that some of the white striping has faded to dark green. |

Sasaella masamuneana 'Aureostriata' - This is a very rare form and generally when offered it is not the real deal, rather a clone of 'Albostriata'. The gold coloration is quite distinct and just the opposite of the 'Albostriata' as this form starts out with green leaves and the gold striping develops over the summer. |

Sasaella ramosa - This bamboo is often cited as the most aggressive runner of them all. Thus far, mine has not lived up to this reputation but it has certainly spread out noticeably in year 3. An attractive form when well maintained but it also is very useful for erosion control. |

| Sasaella shiobarensis - I am a bit dubious about this one, not being sure if this is a 'good' species name nor if mine is properly ID'd. Until further notice I'll proceed as though it is correct. A nice green color & form, not very aggressive thus far. | ||||||||||||||||||
